Personalisation

BetterGuest supports using variables in many places, such as communication, Form Welcome and Thank You messages and more. These variables are replaced with real values when generating content for the guest. This helps personalise communication and saves you time.

TIP

Creating variables is a great way to have only one place to update something. If you use the variable in many places (emails, SMSs etc), then if it changes you will only need to update it in one place.

Setting up variables

Open the Personalisation configuration to view the variables.

System And Custom Variables

A large number of system variables are created by default. They relate to your Establishment (e.g. check-in time) and Bookings (e.g. arrival date). You can add your own custom variables as well.

TIP

If you're editing custom variables, uncheck the "Show system variables" checkbox so that you only see the variables you added. This makes it much easier to find the ones you are looking for.

Variables are name - value pairs, and you can use Markdown to format the variable's value.

General and Room Type Variables

You can create a general variable, or assign the variable to a room.

Previewing

You can preview a variable to see what it will look like when used:

The above was a general variable.

Room Type variables are smart: if you use one of these in communication, the Automation will check which Room Type has been booked, and insert the matching value into the communication.

What's more, if more than one Room Type has been booked, and you have set up the same variable for each Room Type, BetterGuest will compile the values into a list to send to the guest:

Using variables

Whenever you see this button Personalisation button next to a field or setting, you can use Personalisation. Clicking on the button will bring up the Personalisation popup:

Clicking on a row will insert the variable into the text where your cursor was when you opened the popup.

INFO

If you know the variable, you can type it in manually instead.
