Upsell Automation

 

Creating an Upsell Automation to send offers to guests is incredibly easy and has two parts:

  1. Configuring Upsells in your Establishment Configuration (we suggest doing this first)
  2. Creating an Upsell Automation (this page)

As with other Automations, this Automation is driven by your Booking.

How Upsells work

When an upsell Task runs, the following happens:

  1. BetterGuest checks your availability with your PMS / Channel Manager for the period of the guest's booking.
  2. We then compare this availability against upsell options you have configured.
  3. If there are no rooms available that match a configured upsell (a valid move from one booked room type to a more expensive available room type), the Automation stops.
  4. If there is one or more room type available that matches a configured upsell, we compare pricing. If the price is more expensive (expected), we calculate the discount according to your settings and prepare the offer, otherwise skip to the next available room type.
  5. We then send an email to the guest with one or more offers, or stop and don't send if there are no offers.

The guest will then recieve an email with the offers. If they are interested in an Upsell, they can click on a "Find out more" button, which will email you to let you know they are interested, and you can contact the guest to close the deal.

Creating an Upsell Automation

Use the "Add Automation" button to create a new Automation, and select "Upsell" for the type.

The timing is important, and will depend on a) when you feel the best time is to upsell to the guest, and b) when you feel reasonably unlikely to sell your unsold rooms. We suggest 1 or 2 days prior to arrival.

Upsell emails

BetterGuest automatically fills in part of the email for you - the offers that are shown to the guest. This block of text not editable and is shown in blue in the Email Template editor (see below). You should however edit the text above and below the blue block.

TIP

If you're still a little cautious about sending Upsells out, you can always leave the Communication Mode on the Automation to Host only. Then you can have a look at the email before forwarding on to the guest.
